Unique. Unusual. Urban. Untapped. The 511n3 building functions on many levels: it provides shelter, commerce, recreation and privacy at its core but also aims to excite, inspire, and invite users as well as passersby. The design intent is influenced by practical limits which are turned into desireable opportunities such as street level commercial retail space, secure tenant parking, private dwellings with open vistas, and large outdoor spaces. These amenities are packaged into an architectural statement that establishes the building with a unique identity on the skyline which will be a source of pride for the inhabitants as well as the citizens of the city. The form of the new building is inspired by, and reminiscent of a ship?s hull which in turn is a nod to the rich maritime history of Wilmington.
